Polar Skate Co.

Malmö-born board brand bringing European sensibilities and artistic vision to skateboarding with distinctive graphics, unexpected board shapes, and an uncompromising DIY ethos that's influenced an entire generation.

Polar Skate Co. Decks & Apparel

Polar Skate Co. emerged from the frost-bitten streets of Malmö, Sweden in 2011 when Pontus Alv—disillusioned with skateboarding's corporate trajectory—decided to build something that reflected skating's creative spirit rather than its competitive potential. What began as a small batch of hand-screened decks quickly developed into one of skateboarding's most influential voices, with Polar's distinct aesthetic and unfiltered approach serving as the perfect antidote to energy drink-sponsored mega-contests. Their board designs—wider shapes, varied concaves, and experimental outlines—sparked the alternative shape revolution that liberated skaters from standardized popsicle monotony. Polar's video output, from the groundbreaking "The Polar Skate Co. Promo" through "In Search of the Miraculous" and "We Blew It At Some Point," established a visual language that captured skateboarding's gritty essence—raw street footage juxtaposed with artistic interludes and deliberately lo-fi production that rejected the increasingly cinematic approach dominating skateboarding media. Their team reflected this same authenticity—riders like Oskar Rozenberg, Hjalte Halberg, and Aaron Herrington selected not for contest results but for distinctive approaches to terrain and creative perspectives. Beyond boards, Polar's apparel line translated their minimalist, art-driven aesthetics into garments built for skating's specific demands—from their iconic striped long-sleeves to their perfectly proportioned chinos that accommodated movement without sacrificing durability. What separates Polar from countless imitators is the undeniable substance backing their aesthetic choices—a commitment to skateboarding's fundamentally creative nature rather than its commercial potential, proving that authentic vision can resonate globally without compromising to mainstream expectations.
